Night Cream Under 500: What ₹500 Really Buys

A decent night cream under 500 rupees is easy to find, but at this price you usually choose between size and ingredients: either a small jar of a well-made cream, or a bigger jar of a very simple moisturiser. Both can work, because the main job of a night cream is to help skin stay moisturised overnight, and that does not need an expensive formula.

This guide shows what ₹500 realistically buys, what to look for on the label, the red flags that make a very cheap cream a bad deal, and how our two options under ₹500 compare on value per gram.

What ₹500 realistically buys

  • A small jar of a cream with useful ingredients. Often 10–20 g. Good for trying a formula before buying a full size, or for travel.
  • A larger jar of a basic moisturiser. Glycerin, oils or butters and not much else. Fine for comfort, especially for dry skin in winter or AC rooms.
  • Rarely both. If a cream under ₹500 claims a long list of costly actives in a big jar, read the ingredient list carefully. The actives may be present in very small amounts, or listed near the end.

What you should not expect at any price: a change in natural skin colour, or visible results overnight. A more even-looking tone usually takes 8–12 weeks of regular use plus daily sunscreen.

Budget night cream India: what to look for

  1. A full ingredient list on the pack, not just a few highlighted names.
  2. A moisturising base such as glycerin, plant oils or butters (avocado, shea), or aloe vera.
  3. One or two well-known actives, if you want them. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is a common, gentle choice. Kojic acid, typically around 1–2% in creams, is used for a more even-looking tone and needs sunscreen in the morning.
  4. A texture that suits your skin. Light or whipped for oily skin and humid cities; richer for dry skin.
  5. A sealed jar with batch number, manufacturing and use-before dates.
  6. A clear return policy if you buy online.

Our ingredients to look for in a night cream guide goes deeper on each one.

Red flags of very cheap creams

  • Promises to change skin colour or make skin "white" in 7 days. Cosmetic creams cannot do this honestly, and some unlabelled creams have been found to contain steroids or mercury.
  • No ingredient list, or a label only in a language you cannot read with no Indian importer details.
  • An "instant glow" that washes off. Shimmer or a white cast is make-up, not skincare.
  • A price far below the brand's own MRP on a marketplace. It may be old stock or a copy.
  • Unsealed or dented jars, missing dates, or a strong chemical smell.
  • Stinging or burning that does not settle within a few minutes. Stop and rinse.

If you suspect a copy, our guide on how to spot fake creams lists what to check.

Mirc Glow options under ₹500

To be clear, only two of our creams are under ₹500:

  • Avocado Glow Nourishing Skin Cream, 10 g, ₹349. Avocado, aloe vera, vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and kojic acid. A small jar to try the formula, use at night, or carry while travelling. Because it contains kojic acid, wear sunscreen in the morning.
  • Avocado Glow Cream, 15 g, ₹399. Avocado and aloe vera only, in a light whipped texture. It is a moisturiser for day or night rather than a dedicated night cream, and a good pick for oily or sensitive skin, or for anyone who wants no actives.

Our 30 g night creams, the Avocado Night Cream and the Avocado Korean Night Cream (25 g), are ₹649 each, so they sit just above this budget. We would rather say that plainly than stretch the definition of "under ₹500".

Value per gram and cost per month

The jar price is not the full story. A small jar runs out sooner. Here is what each costs over about four weeks at a pea-sized amount (about 0.4–0.5 g) each night:

CreamSize and pricePer gramLasts aboutCost per 4 weeks
Avocado Glow Nourishing Skin Cream10 g, ₹349₹352–3 weeks₹465–₹700
Avocado Glow Cream15 g, ₹399₹273–4 weeks₹400–₹530
Avocado Night Cream (for comparison)30 g, ₹649₹226–8 weeks₹325–₹435

So if you already know a cream suits you and you will use it every night, the ₹649 jar often costs less per month than a ₹349 jar. Under ₹500 makes most sense for trying a cream first, for travel, or when the lighter 15 g texture is what your skin wants.

Which one to pick

  • Dry or normal skin, want to try a kojic acid cream: the 10 g ₹349 jar, then move to the 30 g if it suits you.
  • Oily skin, humid city or summer: the 15 g ₹399 cream in a thin layer. See night cream for oily skin.
  • Sensitive skin, or right after threading or waxing: the 15 g cream, since it has no kojic acid.
  • Not sure of your skin type: take the skin quiz first.

Getting the most from a small jar

  • Use a pea-sized amount on clean, slightly damp skin. More cream does not mean more results. See how much night cream to use.
  • Scoop with a clean spatula or dry fingers and close the lid tightly.
  • Keep the jar away from the bathroom window and direct sun.
  • Patch test on the jawline for 24–48 hours before the first full use.

For college girls and hostel life

Night cream on a student budget

You can do this well for under ₹500. Here's how the money usually splits for girls on a hostel or first-salary budget:

WhatRough budgetNotes
Gentle face wash₹150 to ₹300Mild, non-foaming or low-foam is fine
Night cream₹300 to ₹500A small jar lasts longer than you'd think if you use a pea-sized amount
Sunscreen₹300 to ₹600The one thing not to skip

If you have to choose between a night cream and sunscreen, choose sunscreen. The two Mirc Glow picks in this price range are listed above.

A hostel-friendly night routine

Shared bathrooms, a small shelf, a roommate who wants the lights off. Keep it simple.

  1. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser. If you wore sunscreen or kajal, take that off first with micellar water on cotton.
  2. Pat dry with your own clean towel. Not the shared one.
  3. Take a pea-sized amount of cream with a clean fingertip or a small spatula, so the jar stays clean.
  4. Dot it on the cheeks, forehead and chin, then press it in. Less on the nose if it gets oily.
  5. Close the jar tightly and keep it away from the window and direct sun.

That's two products and about three minutes. In the morning, wash with water or a mild cleanser and put on sunscreen before you leave for college or work. For a bit more structure, see our skincare routine for beginners.

Day cream or night cream under ₹500?

On a tight budget, one jar can do both jobs if the texture is light: a thin layer under sunscreen in the morning and a pea-sized amount at night. The 15 g Avocado Glow Cream (avocado and aloe vera only) works that way. If your cream contains kojic acid, keep it mostly for night and always wear sunscreen in the day. None of our creams contain SPF, so budget for a sunscreen separately.
