Karwa Chauth Skincare: Week-Before Plan and Fasting-Day Tips

Good Karwa Chauth skincare is gentle and hydrating: keep your usual routine this week, finish threading and any facial a few days early, moisture-load the night before, and on the fasting day protect your skin from heat and dryness with cream, lip balm and shade. Karwa Chauth falls on Wednesday 28 October 2026, so you have about a week. That is enough for a soft, rested glow for the evening puja, not for changing spots or tone.

This guide is about skin only. If you have diabetes, low blood pressure, are pregnant or breastfeeding, take regular medicine or feel unwell, talk to your doctor about whether and how to fast. Your wellbeing comes first; the glow can wait.

Your week-before plan (21–27 October)

Sat 24 – Sun 25 OctThreading or waxing; one gentle exfoliation if your skin is not sensitiveKojic acid or glutathione on freshly threaded or waxed skin for 24–48 hours
Mon 26 OctMake-up trial if you are trying a new lookScrubs, new face packs
Tue 27 OctMehendi, hydration, early nightAny new product

A facial five days out is tighter than the usual 7–10 days, so if your skin tends to go red afterwards, skip it this year. Our guide to night cream after a facial covers aftercare, and night cream after waxing and threading explains what to use on freshly threaded skin.

Every night this week: cleanse gently, then a pea-sized amount of night cream. A rich one like Avocado Night Cream helps skin feel soft and moisturised by morning. Every morning: moisturiser and sunscreen, SPF 30 or more, especially if your night cream contains kojic acid.

The night before Karwa Chauth

Mehendi usually goes on the evening before, and your hands stay busy for hours. Do your face first.

  1. Cleanse with lukewarm water and a mild face wash.
  2. Hydrating layer: a hyaluronic acid serum or a few pats of hydrating toner on damp skin.
  3. Night cream, slightly more than usual, pressed into cheeks and the sides of the nose, where skin dries first.
  4. A thick layer of lip balm. Lips get dry quickly when you are not drinking water.
  5. Then mehendi. Once it has come off, rub a little cream or oil into your hands so the skin around the design does not feel dry.

Sleep on a clean pillowcase and try to get to bed on time, since sargi means a very early start.

Skincare while fasting: the Karwa Chauth day

On a nirjala fast you do not drink water from sunrise to moonrise, so your skin may feel drier and look a little tired by evening. You cannot change that from the inside on the day, but you can stop skin losing more moisture from the outside.

Before or after sargi

  1. Rinse your face with lukewarm water. Skip a foaming wash if your skin is dry.
  2. Moisturiser on slightly damp skin. A light cream like Avocado Glow Cream 15 g, with only avocado and aloe vera, is comfortable all day and suits sensitive skin.
  3. Sunscreen if you will be outdoors or near windows. Lip balm.

Through the day

  • Stay out of direct sun and heat where you can. Late October afternoons can still be warm.
  • Keep showers short and lukewarm. Hot water pulls oil from the skin.
  • Reapply lip balm every few hours.
  • If your face feels tight, press a little more moisturiser onto dry areas. A face mist or cool, damp cloth also feels refreshing, if your family custom is comfortable with water touching the skin.
  • Rest when you can. A short nap shows on your face more than any product.

If you feel dizzy, faint or unwell during the fast, stop and take care of yourself. No skincare step is worth pushing through that.

Make-up prep for the evening puja

  1. Two hours before: rinse with cool water and pat dry.
  2. Moisturise with a thin layer of light cream. Hydrated skin is the base for make-up that does not crack or look patchy.
  3. Wait five minutes, then a hydrating primer if your skin is dry, or a mattifying one on the T-zone only if it is oily.
  4. Go lighter on powder. On a dry fasting day, heavy powder settles into lines and looks flat in photos.
  5. Cream blush and a touch of highlighter on the cheekbones add a fresh look. That is the honest instant glow.
  6. Lip balm under lipstick, blotted, so matte shades do not flake.

Moonrise timing varies by city, so you may wait in your make-up for a while. Keep blotting papers and lip balm in your bag.

After the fast

Once you have broken the fast and eaten, give your skin ten minutes before bed.

  1. Take off make-up properly: an oil cleanser or balm first, then a gentle face wash. Wipes alone leave residue.
  2. Night cream, a full pea-sized amount, plus a little on the neck. Our guide on how to apply night cream shows the technique.
  3. Lip balm, thickly.
  4. No exfoliating tonight. Skin is drier than usual after the day.

Skin often looks a little tired the next morning. A normal routine, water through the day and an early night usually bring it back within a day or two. Diwali is on 8 November, just 11 days later, so you can roll straight into our Diwali skincare routine.

Karwa Chauth skincare by skin type: glow without the stress

  • Dry skin: moisturise within a minute of washing, morning and night, and use a richer cream the night before. See avocado cream for dry skin.
  • Oily skin: a light gel moisturiser by day and a thin layer of night cream. Blot instead of re-powdering.
  • Sensitive skin: skip exfoliation and the facial, keep threading at least three days out, and use only products you already know.
  • Acne-prone skin: do not squeeze spots before the puja. A dab of concealer is safer. If acne is painful or cystic, see a dermatologist.

Short answers

How can I glow for Karwa Chauth in one week? Keep your routine steady, finish threading and any facial early, use a rich night cream the night before and protect skin from heat on the day.

What skincare should I use while fasting? Gentle, hydrating steps: a mild cleanse or rinse, moisturiser, sunscreen if outdoors and lip balm through the day.

Can I get a facial before Karwa Chauth? If you usually do, by Friday 23 October. Skip peels and first-time facials.

When should I do threading? By 24–25 October, and avoid kojic acid or glutathione on that skin for 24–48 hours.

Should I try a new cream for Karwa Chauth? No. A week is too short to recover if it does not suit you. Keep it for after Diwali.

This is general skincare information, not medical advice. Patch test any new product, and see a dermatologist if you have a skin condition.
