Niacinamide for Enlarged Pores and Oily Skin: What It Really Does

Niacinamide for enlarged pores is one of the most practical choices in skincare: it helps pores look smaller and less noticeable, helps oily skin look less shiny, and supports the skin barrier. It cannot change the actual size of your pores, but with steady use for 8 to 12 weeks, skin usually looks smoother and more refined.

Niacinamide is also gentle enough for dry and sensitive skin, which is why you see it in so many Indian moisturisers. Here is what it really does, how much to use, how to choose a niacinamide cream for your skin type, and what a fair price looks like.

What niacinamide is

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. It is water-soluble, stable in heat and light, and has no smell, so it fits easily into creams, gels and serums. In moisturisers it is often used at about 2–5%; serums may go higher. More is not always better: very high amounts can cause redness or flushing in some people.

Niacinamide for enlarged pores: what to expect

Pores look bigger when they are stretched by oil and debris, or when the skin around them loses firmness. Niacinamide helps in a few ways:

  • It helps balance the look of oil. Less shine means pores reflect less light and look smaller.
  • It supports the skin barrier. Calmer, better-hydrated skin looks smoother around the pores.
  • It helps tone look more even. Fewer marks around the nose and cheeks make pores less obvious.

Honest limit: pore size is largely set by genes and age. No cream can close pores or shrink them for good. What niacinamide gives you is a smoother, less shiny, more even-looking surface.

Niacinamide moisturiser for oily skin

Oily skin often skips moisturiser, then makes even more oil to make up for it. A light niacinamide moisturiser is a good middle path.

  1. Cleanse gently morning and night. Harsh, squeaky-clean face washes can increase oiliness.
  2. Apply a pea-sized amount of a light niacinamide cream or gel-cream. Use half that on humid summer days.
  3. Finish with a gel or matte sunscreen in the morning.
  4. Blot, do not wash, during the day. Blotting paper keeps shine down without stripping the skin.

Niacinamide cream for dry skin

Niacinamide is not only for oily skin. It helps the skin hold on to moisture by supporting its natural barrier, which is very useful in AC rooms, winter and hard-water cities. For dry skin, choose a richer cream that pairs niacinamide with oils or butters such as avocado, and apply it on slightly damp skin at night. Read avocado cream for dry skin for why richer textures help.

Other skincare ingredients for oily skin

Niacinamide works well alongside other ingredients made for oily skin. As general education:

  • Salicylic acid (BHA): oil-soluble and helps clear the look of blackheads and clogged pores. Use a few times a week to start.
  • Hyaluronic acid: light hydration without heaviness.
  • Zinc: often used with niacinamide for oil balance.
  • Clay masks: once a week for a matte, fresh feel.
  • Aloe vera: a light, cooling base for summer creams.

Mirc Glow creams do not contain salicylic acid or zinc. If you use a BHA product, apply it on alternate nights to your niacinamide cream if your skin feels sensitive.

Niacinamide cream price in India

Prices vary with jar size, how many other active ingredients are included, and packaging. When comparing, look at the price per gram and the full ingredient list rather than the percentage printed on the front alone. In our own range, niacinamide appears in several creams:

  • Avocado Glow Cream 10 g, ₹349, with avocado, aloe vera, niacinamide and kojic acid: an affordable first try.
  • Avocado Night Cream 30 g, ₹649, with the same four ingredients and the best value per gram.
  • Glass Glow Cream 30 g, ₹2,499, with niacinamide, glutathione, hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica and alpha arbutin.

Note that our Avocado Glow Cream 15 g is avocado and aloe vera only, with no niacinamide. Compare every option on our night cream page.

How to use niacinamide safely

  • Patch test for 24 to 48 hours on the jawline before using it on your face.
  • Start once a day; move to twice a day if your skin is happy.
  • If you feel warmth or see redness, use less or switch to every second day.
  • Wear sunscreen every morning, especially if your niacinamide cream also contains kojic acid.
  • See a dermatologist for painful or cystic acne, or very large, inflamed pores.
